DesignGroup specified a copper rainscreen for the Columbus Museum of Art. Keith Panel Systems Co. Ltd. fabricated 32-ounce copper panels with A. Zahner Co.’s Star Blue pre-weathered finish for its System A dry-joint, pressure-equalized rainscreen for the project. Phinney Industrial Inc. mounted the copper panels to an extruded aluminum substructure with integrated weeps to remove water entering the system. The panels were fastened to a system of vertical cold-formed metal framing (CFMF) girts with mineral wool insulation between them. The backup wall is 8-inch CMU. The façade features light boxes with LED fixtures recessed behind a perforated copper screen. The screen has a diffusing panel of frosted acrylic to soften and distribute light. The 50,000-square-foot project was completed in October 2015.
