To complement Florida’s aquatic landscape, Baker Barrios Architects Inc. utilized a combination of glazing and aged copper in its design for Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine at Nova Southeastern University. The copper cladding has a turquoise-green verdigris and flecks of natural copper underneath.
To complete the project, MG McGrath Inc. fabricated and installed 14,500 square feet of 20-ounce copper into its H-Seam panels in Pike patina. SPS Metals, a division of SPS Companies Inc. supplied the copper.
Dr. Kiran C. Patel is a physician in the Tampa Bay area who funded the majority of the project. The college will enroll 100 to 150 economically disadvantaged U.S. and international students to occupy the facility. Within 110,000 square feet, it houses classrooms, laboratories, offices, study spaces and an auditorium.
