The metal building system, metal roofing, and metal walls met project goals for durability, building envelope performance, and aesthetics for Roosevelt High School’s gymnasium and field house, home of the Roughriders.
The gymnasium portion was constructed using the metal building system, and Roughrider Field House was built using an adjacent conventional steel structure. In the gymnasium portion, a basketball goal support structure suspended from the metal building system holds eight basketball goals and two divider curtains. The support structure was built using a gridwork of wide flange beams in the roof as part of the metal building system.
A 2,044 m2 (22,000 sf) 24-gauge steel mechanically seamed standing seam roof system was installed on the roof. Numerous roof curbs surround mechanical units and skylights. Additionally, a permanent fall protection system was mounted on the roof.
On the walls, 1,765 m2 (19,000 sf) of 24-gauge steel architectural ribbed wall panels, which are reverse-rolled R-panels, and translucent wall panels were installed. A banded liner insulation system was installed on the roof and walls.
On the exterior, masonry wainscot was installed on top of oriented strand board (OSB) over metal studs. Inside, to deaden sounds in the gymnasium, 929 m2 (10,000 sf) of perforated 24-gauge steel acoustic liner panels with black acoustic insulation batts behind them were installed.
