A renovation and expansion project at the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority’s (MARTA) Inman Park/Reynoldstown Station included replacing the metal ceilings. The 25,000-square-foot station opened in 1979 and its existing metal ceiling suspension system was in good enough condition to leave in place with reinforcements.
The metal ceiling system covers exterior and interior spaces. To replace it, Acousti Engineering Co. of Florida installed two metal ceiling systems. The first is Rockfon’s Planar Macroplus linear metal planks in Satin Silver and Winchester Grey and three widths: 4, 6 and 8 inches.
Acousti also installed Rockfon’s Planostile Snap-in metal ceiling panels in Satin Silver and Winchester Grey. The panels are three sizes: 24 inches by 24 inches, 18 inches by 24 inches and 10 inches by 10 inches. To complete the system, the company installed Rockfon’s Infinity aluminum perimeter trim in Satin Silver and Winchester Grey in 4 inches and 12 inches.
Carlo Grohovac, architectural and district sales manager in Georgia for Rockfon, says, “MARTA wanted a smooth, symmetrical look throughout the transitions and perimeters, such as where the ceiling has a 45-degree angle, or where it meets a column or soffit, or where all three conditions intersect. We arrived at elegantly simple solutions and they look beautiful.”
Grohovac says the variety of colors, sizes and shapes break up long corridors and create visual cues for patrons. “Using two systems, factory-finished in Satin Silver and Winchester Gray, perforated and nonperforated panels and multiple sizes, we were able to combine standard design elements for a high-end look without a high-end cost.”
Daily, approximately 3,000 patrons use Inman Park/Reynoldstown Station. New safety features at the station, located on DeKalb Avenue and Hurt Street, include an accessibility ramp that connects Walthall Street to the Reynoldstown bus loop. Also, on the south side of the station, there is a stair tower to access Seaboard Avenue.
