Joan and Sanford I. Weill Neurosciences Building, San Francisco

SmithGroup designed Joan and Sanford I. Weill Neurosciences Building at University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) to foster connection among scientists and clinicians.

The facility on UCSF’s Mission Bay campus unites the neuroscience community including neurology, neurosurgery and psychiatry under one roof. The neuroscience center is a global destination for researchers to research the nervous system and brain, and study and develop treatments for intractable brain diseases.

Inside the building, custom railing systems with glass panels were specified for staircases to complement the interior’s open layout and modern design aesthetic.

ACR Glazing Contractors Inc. installed Sightline Commercial Solutions’ custom railing systems. GlasPro Inc. fabricated the glazing. The railings’ glass nut Track Rail facilitates collaboration and enhances daylighting throughout the building.
