Self+Tucker Architects Inc. designed Memphis Business Academy with bright colored metal panels in the school’s colors. The 22,000-square-foot facility houses multipurpose classrooms and a gymnasium for elementary, middle and high school students. The gymnasium has an elevated walking track and is flanked by a classroom block, which is linearly arranged to respond to site conditions and daylighting. A student plaza was created outside the main entryway by positioning the facility south of another existing school.
For the building structure, Page Construction LLC erected Gulf States Manufacturers LLC’s metal building system. For the roof, Ralph Jones Sheet Metal Inc. installed 22,910 square feet of Petersen Aluminum Corp.’s 24-gauge, 16-inch-wide Tite-Loc metal roof panels in Bone White, and 1,030 square feet of Petersen’s 24-gauge soffit panels in Bone White.
For wall cladding, Ralph Jones Sheet Metal installed 9,113 square feet Petersen Aluminum Corp.’s 24-gauge, 7/8-inch corrugated metal wall panels in two colors: Cardinal Red and Cityscape. Ralph Jones Sheet Metal installed Mitsubishi Chemical Composites America Inc.’s ALPOLIC metal composite material in EYL Yellow. Other exterior envelope materials included translucent panels and decorative, ground-faced masonry. Additionally, Ralph Jones Sheet Metal installed Kawneer Co. Inc.’s Tuffline entrances.
