Ottoville Hardware and Furniture Co., Ottoville, Ohio

The 6,000-square-foot (557-m2) furniture and appliance showroom is more comfortable and offers more visual appeal for customers, thanks to the HIGH-R Insulation System that was recently installed in the showroom that was added to the 70-year-old hardware store in 1990.

Owners Robert Bendele and sons, Mike,Dan and Jim heard about the energy saving capability of the system and drove more than nine hours from western Ohio to examine a system that HIGH-R had installed at a central Iowa auto dealership. They then ordered a system for their business.

Unlike traditional insulating methods where sheets of urethane are installed between trusses just below the decking of a metal building roof, the HIGH-R Insulation System panels are mounted onto clips attached to the purlins at the base of the trusses. The cavity between the purlins and the roof decking is then filled with blown fiberglass, allowing for R-40 or greater insulation.

According to Dan Bendele, the system produced immediate energy savings for the store. “The furnace doesn’t run as much, that’s the biggest thing. It’s much more comfortable inside and we can actually set the thermostat down.”

As an added bonus, the system also improved the look of his showroom. “We really like how it looked. But we also got a little better lighting because of that, a little better reflection for our showroom.”
