Reid State Technical College Administration Building, Evergreen, Ala.

reid_state_technical_collegeThe administration building needed a replacement roof after its 30-year-old roof was destroyed by Hurricane Ivan in 2004. When exploring roof replacement options, the college sought to create a weathertight, leakproof building that would also integrate seamlessly with the campus’ other buildings. The existing roof, including wall panels and soffits, were removed down to the structural framing, and The Garland Co. Inc.’s 48-foot Galvan-coated steel R-Mer Span standing seam roof panels were installed over the building’s existing framing. The building consists of 32,000 square feet of metal roof panels, mansards and soffits from The Garland Co. and IMETCO.

The 24-gauge, 16-inch standing seam metal roof system was chosen for this project for its strength, aesthetic appearance and ability to span structurally across the existing framing system. Metal mansards and soffit panels from IMETCO were chosen to close in the building’s perimeters and give the appearance of a continuous metal roof. In addition, a new architectural entrance canopy with exposed framing and a curved roof was constructed for the administration building.
