Suffolk Punch is a local brewery and taphouse, and the owners wanted to expand their footprint to Charlotte’s premier shopping mall, SouthPark. The steel-framed portion of this building is an addition to the shopping mall, with half of the restaurant being a remodel of an existing restaurant space. The construction of the building required a high-end and modern design using a steel frame manufactured by Chief Buildings. Challenges included the location of the project being in the middle of a shopping mall, and creating the desired architectural look using steel beams, with all walls being full storefront glass systems. In all, the project features 372 m2 (4,000 sf) of heavy rib panel with a center of polycarbonate clear panels, storefront glass, and glass overhead doors
Suffolk Punch SouthPark boasts 1022 m2 (11,000 sf) for the neighborhood brewery with full kitchen service, a full-service coffee bar, and an outdoor plaza. The addition of Suffolk Punch SouthPark to the mall provides indoor and outdoor seating, a live music stage, and a patio that overlooks an outdoor play area. Adding this space has given mall patrons the opportunity to relax and enjoy food, beverages, and entertainment at the North Carolina city’s longest-standing and most high-end mall. The brewery brings people to the mall and keeps them there because of its atmosphere and entertainment options.
