Ruby _blue

Located at the Mandalay Bay Hotel, Ruby Blue sells everything from lingerie to whimsical toys. Ruby Blue is a bold addition to Marshall Retail Group's (MRG's) national line-up of retail operations. Over the last 57 years, the privately held company has become the nation's largest independent specialty retailer in the casino-resort marketplace.

MRG called on architect Michele Dempsey of DxDempsey to help bring MRG's vision to life. Dempsey has worked with the niche retail giant for more than four years, developing a range of creative concepts for the casino and resort shops.

The shop covers 1,476 square feet and includes 14 recessed alcoves displaying merchandise. The show-stopping entry and alcoves are all draped with shimmering curtains that pull back to reveal the treasures within. The wall installations include Móz Designs' electric red metal laminates supplied in 4- by 10-foot sheets of 0.040-inch recycled aluminum. The laminates were applied to an MDF core and hand etched with Móz's Bamboo pattern to create depth and dimension. It was a very precise installation where all corners had to come together to present a flawless appearance. A polycoat gloss finish was added to the laminate for durability and easy maintenance.

Offsetting the red panels are royal blue diamondtufted wall panels designed by Tiffany Mosher, director of visual merchandising and store design for MRG, and placed as accents above and within the alcoves. Fabricated from faux suede, each panel was hand-tufted and wrapped around a custom-cut backer for a perfect fit before installation.
