A large expansion project, Saint Barnabas Medical Center’s west wing, includes a new 141,000-square-foot parking structure with expanded metal panels. The metal panels provided a functional, modern solution that fit with the rest of the hospital campus.
To achieve a wavy sheath of panels, MetalTech-USA LLC fabricated, and EDA Contractors Inc. installed, Spantek Expanded Metal’s expanded metal panels, custom sub-framing, brackets and frames. For a more dramatic visual effect than narrow strands, the expanded metal panels have a custom wide strand 5-inch pattern.
The 1/8-inch expanded aluminum panels are 60 inches wide by 64 inches high. At eaves, panel widths were fixed, but lengths varied. The eaves required five different panel lengths. Custom clips were used to connect the panels to aluminum frames. The project was completed in 2017.
