Charlotte’s Seoul Food Meat Company is located in a pre-engineered 1,672 m2 (18,000 sf) metal structure. Metal was chosen for this project to maximize the reuse of existing building materials and to demonstrate the versatility of pre-engineered metal building (PEMB) systems. The existing PEMB and corrugated metal panels were utilized, with custom white corrugated patterns added at main entrances. Additionally, a new lean-to metal building was added to allow guests to appreciate the PEMB’s skeletal structure while enjoying outdoor activities such as watching games on a large screen or supervising children at the splash pad in the landscaped park.
The project incorporates sustainable elements such as solar panels covering the main roof and electrical car chargers for both patrons and employees. The development also aligns with the City of Charlotte’s XCLT Bike Trail, promoting alternative transportation methods and reducing environmental impact.
By reflecting the district’s energy and featuring cycling infrastructure along the Cross-Charlotte Trail, Seoul Food is a welcome addition to the neighborhood. Offerings include dining, karaoke rooms, unique games, and creatively accessible restrooms. The interior design, inspired by the University of Georgia’s colors, fosters communal dining and entertainment. Finally, a concealed passage leads to a speakeasy, outdoor grain silos host gatherings, splash pads entertain, and a stage awaits performances. All these elements are complemented by a newly constructed bridge with pavilion seating that fosters even more connection.
