Completed in February 2010, the 84-classroom Shadow Hills High School contains more than 275,000 square feet of Armstrong Ceilings and Wall Systems’ MetalWorks 0.21-inch-thick electrogalvinized steel metal ceilings in Silver Grey located throughout, including the cafeteria, 400-seat performing arts center and 80-seat lecture hall.
The school is the newest addition to the Desert Sands Unified School District and features a combination of 2- by 2-foot ceiling panels in the performing arts center and cafeteria, while the lecture hall features a combination of 2- by 2-foot and 2- by 4-foot ceiling panels. The ceiling panels are microperforated with 1.5-mm holes to create added acoustic benefits. With a Noise Reduction Coefficent of 0.65, the panels are able to absorb 65 percent of the sound that strikes them.
All of the panels were installed in a standard exposed tee ceiling suspension system and integrate well with standard light fixtures. The panel system also features a tegular or reveal edge that allows them to extend below the plane of the grid system and create a shadow line. Featuring a factory-applied powder coat finish that add to its durability, the metal ceiling panels were chosen for their aesthetic features as well as their long service life.
