SmartStop Self Storage, Trenton, N.J.

Two years ago, the facility owners decided to replace the original standing seam metal roof system, which had begun to deteriorate, as well as several hundred feet of k-style gutter, throughout the 2-acre complex. Smart Stop is one of three self storage companies within a half mile of each other, and the owners chose a brick exterior with three standing seam metal hip roofs to provide an upscale image different from local competitors. They also made a conscious effort to integrate the facility with surrounding office buildings and other commercial structures in the area, using lush landscaping and upscale signage on the facility's frontage.

The owners decided on 10,000 square feet of Englert Inc.'s 24-gauge, 18-inch-wide Englert Series 2500 standing seam metal roof panels in Forest Green to replace the old material on the facility's three hip roofs. The panels maintained the upscale appearance of the facility and integrated nicely with the landscaping surrounding the facility. The roofing material and the Englert gutter systems were installed by Robert Zaremba of High Town Exteriors.

The 60-unit storage complex features climatecontrolled units ranging from 5 by 5 feet to 20 by 20 feet. Some of the units offer drive-up access and feature video surveillance systems to constantly monitor the building to ensure optimal security. Part of the profits from the operation go to two charities, Kure It Cancer Research, which raises money for research specialists conducting innovative projects to better treat and ultimately cure kidney cancer, and Discover Arts, which brings the healing power of the arts to children with cancer, serious blood disorders and life threatening illness while they are in the hospital receiving treatment.
