45-Year Anniversary logo

The American Institute of Architects North Carolina Headquarters, Raleigh, N.C.

Designed by Frank Harmon Architects, the new north_carolina_architect_headquarters American Institute of Architects North Carolina (AIA NC) headquarters features 20,000 square feet of Umicore Building Products USA Inc.’s VMZINC double lock standing seam roof which clads the entire roof as well as one of the building’s walls. The use of VMZINC’s Pigmento Red coating accents the AIA NC logos. The VMZINC panels were donated to the organization.

The cypress siding on the exterior cuts down on solar gain, insulates the building, is relatively low maintenance, and adds visual warmth to the predominately metal, glass and concrete building. The wood is local to North Carolina, reclaimed from the Great Dismal Swamp from trees felled by Hurricane Irene. The VMZINC is a fully recyclable metal that requires little energy to manufacture and lasts 80 to 100 years. The building was designed to achieve LEED Platinum status and likely will when photovoltaic panels are added to the roof, which is ideally sloped to capture maximum solar exposure.
