The Commons at Tulane University is a threestory, 77,000-square-foot multifunctional, indoor/ outdoor building. It has two stories of dining and serving spaces, event space, a library, archives with reading room, study spaces, conference room, two classrooms and open-air courtyard. The third floor houses the Newcomb Institute, which researches gender equality, and was previously spread across campus.

The building features curtainwall framing customized to use two mullions pivoting at a common point, creating a visual effect that makes the wall appear as one line, even though it breaks multiple directions. Additionally, slim, varying sightlines and angles create floor-toceiling views of oak trees that line the center of the campus.

Zinsel Glass and Mirror LLC installed 33,000 square feet of YKK AP America Inc.’s YHC 300 structural, silicone-glazed (SSG) cassette curtainwall with glazing from Viracon Inc.
