LDP Architecture Inc. designed townhouse duplexes with metal panels that wrap around roofs and walls, and other metal panels that frame streetside façades. LDP also used other metal applications and materials to define spaces on the five townhouse units at 3245 Hollis St.
In terms of form, Casey Feeser, principal at LDP, says, “The duplex at the street is sculpted to relate to smaller adjacent houses and reoriented to face the street. The end duplex is cut back to be less imposing to the rear neighbors.”
For roofs that fold into walls, JR Anderson Construction LLC installed AEP Span’s 16-inchwide Span-Lok HP architectural standing seam roof system in Metallic Copper and Black.
To build the façade frames at the streetside, JR Anderson installed AEP Span’s custom metal wall panels in Black. As to sustainability, the project is Build-It Green-certified and meets Title 24 energy acceptance testing.
Each of the five approximately 1,000-squarefoot to 1,700-square-foot duplex units is on its own lot on the 9,975-square-foot site. The townhouses share a driveway court and entrance walkway.
At decks on the townhouses, there are custom metal flat bar railings painted Black. Other materials used include cement plaster, Hardie vertical board and batten panels, Hardie lap siding, redwood and metal fencing.
Each duplex has two stacked townhouses. The lower unit has two bedrooms; the upper unit has three bedrooms, a skylight and shared garage.
“The living spaces are open and airy with the upper ones having skylights,” Feeser says.
