Wellington Municipal Complex, Wellington, Fla.

The two-story, 54,000-square-foot, tilt-wall Wellington Municipal Complex in Wellington, Fla., features an 11,500-square-foot Englert Series 2000 standing seam roof. Michael Rodebaugh, project manager with the architect, Leo A. Daly, notes that the metal roof was chosen for its durability and wind uplift capabilities. It serves as well as serving as an aesthetic, unifying factor for the various elements of the complex including the municipal offices, the amphitheater and the clock tower.

The new design-build municipal complex contains an employee courtyard, 166-seat council chamber and a quick stop where residents can pick up quick permits and pay their utility bills. It also houses the village administrative offices, gym, fitness facility and locker rooms, conference rooms and a broadcasting room. Also designed into the complex is a playground called Scott's Place with facilities for children of all abilities including those with special needs. The highlight of the project is the two-story clock tower done in the Florida Vernacular Style with a standing seam metal roof.

The building achieved LEED Gold status for its implementation of several green features, including a LEED-compliant standing seam metal mansard roof with overhangs that provide shade for windows on both levels of the structure, a commercial rainwater harvesting system that provides water for 28 toilets in the complex and triple pane, 3/4-inch glass windows with horizontal louvers to control sunlight exposure. The design includes a full-service generator that, with the rainwater harvesting facility, allows the structure to function as an emergency command center if building power and water for toilets were not available.
