Ankrom Moisan Architects Inc. utilized a variety of cladding materials on the exterior of West Edge Tower mixed-use high-rise building including glazing, masonry and insulated metal panels (IMPs). Moreover, in total, 13 colors of IMPs were used including Obsidian, Off White, and shades of gray in between the dark and light colors. McKinstry Co. LLC installed 38,000 square feet of Metl-Span’s 2-inch-thick CF Architectural IMPs on the 39-story, 500,000-square-foot West Edge Tower.
Peter Avratin, project manager at McKinstry, says, “The multicolored, metal exterior was a feature created by the design team to make the wall look as though it faded into the air.”
Located at 2nd Avenue and Pike Street, the luxury high-rise sits squarely between Seattle’s thriving retail and financial cores, a strategic location to attract residents for its more than 300 available units. The mixed-use development was designed to reflect the city’s urban core and the surrounding architecture, while paying tribute to the natural landscape of America’s Northwest. Amenities include a gymnasium, bar/restaurant and unobstructed water and city views from balconies. The interior opens to the exterior at the ground floor where a seven-story atrium is occupied by a Tsuma Gaki maple tree. Greg Smith, CEO at Urban Visions, the developer, says, “We wanted to cater to the urban resident that wants a little more space and fresh air, pairing this prime location with an ideal space.”
