Revere Copper Products—named after its founder and Revolutionary War hero, Paul Revere—is commemorating its 225th anniversary this year and celebrating its status as the oldest continuously operating manufacturer in the United States.

Headquartered in Rome, N.Y., Revere serves numerous markets, including architectural, electric vehicle, power distribution, electrical and telecom, air conditioning, and industrial machinery.

Working under contract with the U.S. Navy in the 1790s, Paul Revere launched the continent’s first copper rolling mill. By 1801, he was rolling copper sheets and supplying roughly 12,000 feet for use on the famous frigate USS Constitution (also known as “Old Ironsides”).

His contributions to America’s defense did not end there. The company supplied cannon and round shot for Union ships during the Civil War, and supported America’s “Arsenal of Democracy” during WWII.

Revere Copper Products has been a private, employee-owned company since the 1980s, when Brian O’Shaughnessy took the reins as chair, president & CEO. Today, Mike O’Shaughnessy leads the company.

“Everybody knows about Paul Revere’s midnight ride, and that’s very important, but when you dig deeper, you realize that he played a critical role in the earliest growth and success of this nation,” said O’Shaughnessy.

Today, Revere Copper’s manufacturing footprint encompasses over 1 million square feet across the copper mill and headquarters in Rome and a second facility in Mebane, N.C.
