A variety of metal roofing and metal wall applications contribute to wayfinding and express branding of Village Travel at the company’s headquarters. The charter bus and bus tour company has seven other locations throughout the U.S.

In tandem with construction of its new 50,000-square-foot headquarters, Village Travel underwent a rebranding process in which the company logo was changed. One project goal was to express the company’s history and future in the design of the building by alluding to the previous and new logos.

Curved arches over departure bays and the front office refer to the company’s old logo, which had a splash under text. Angled, colored metal panels at the front of departure bays and front office refer to the new logo, which has crisp, sharp angles.

A variety of different metal panels, installed horizontally and vertically, were used in multiple configurations and provide shadow lines. In addition to expressing the company’s branding, variations in the metal panels help direct users to the main entrance and departure bays, where large, curved eyebrows were built with customrolled steel structures.

At the main entry and departure bay entrances, Sharp Construction Co. installed MBCI’s Curved BattenLok standing seam roof system in Tundra.

On the main building, Sharp Construction installed Butler Manufacturing’s MR-24 standing seam roof system in Alzn. Sharp Construction installed 3,500 square feet of MBCI’s MasterLine metal wall panels in Kynar Harbor Blue and Tundra. Sharp Construction also installed 18,000 square feet of Butler’s Butlerib II metal wall panels in Kynar Cool Shell Gray and Cool Harvest.Butler supplied a metal building system for the designbuild project as well.

Extensive collaboration among project team members was essential. One challenge for the design-build project was the site is in a flood plain; building codes required it be raised 7 feet. To raise the elevation of the building, 7,700 loads of soil were moved or imported.

The 50,000-square-foot facility houses spaces for administrative and sales staff, a departure center with two covered, heated bays, lounge area with seating for 100 people and maintenance space for 13 buses. There is exterior parking for 52 of the company’s 139 coach bus fleet as well as parking for employees and patrons.
