Committed to reducing its impact on the Grand River and the environment, the university used green building products to renovate and expand Mackinac Hall, which received LEED Silver certification. The 83,000-square-foot (7,711-m2) project included houses, classrooms, case rooms, student study areas, faculty offices, academic department offices, conference rooms, etc., and required significant site improvements, as well as four new floors and a penthouse. The renovation needed to be complete before the start of fall 2008 classes, so the architects and builders were challenged with a quick turnaround for the completion of the project.
CENTRIA supplied 10,835 square feet (1,007 m2) of 22/26-gauge Formawall Graphix Series 3-inch (76-mm) Horizontal wall panels in Midnight Bronze with a smooth Fluorofinish coating; 5,352 square feet (497 m2) of 22/26-gauge Formawall Dimension Series 2-inch (51-mm) Vertical wall panels in Midnight Bronze with a smooth Fluorofinish coating; 3,808 square feet (354 m2) of 22/26-gauge Formawall Dimension Series 2-inch Horizontal wall panels in Midnight Bronze with a smooth Fluorofinish coating; Formavue Windows FV500; and C/S Louvers.
Aiding in the LEED Silver certification, the Formawall Dimension Series and Formawall Graphix Series are both Cradle to Cradle Silver certified.
