Bringing sustainable design to a reservation

Projects that instill and support community values are few and far between, so when Trojan Powder Coating Co. Inc., Bay Shore, N.Y. was presented an opportunity to contribute to New Jersey’s initiative to restore its iconic South Mountain Reservation, they seized it. The reservation, which boasts over 2,000 acres of preserved land and resources in Essex County, is home to acres of land that remained untouched for years. When the state recently voted to revamp the site’s Orange Reservoir⎯a destination that draws many locals and tourists throughout the year⎯it had its community and enthusiastic visitors in mind.

Part of this highly anticipated renovation included the design and installation of a walking path that spans the reservoir’s dam. To bring this architectural concept to life, the state recruited the help of Marietta, Ga.-based Gator Dock, a firm specializing in marine access installations, and the company’s powder coating experts adept to working with large-scale projects. Gator Dock built and installed two aluminum walking bridges; the smaller bridge measures 70 feet long, while the larger of the two is 84 feet, both offering breathtaking views of the dam and nearby greenery.

Durable and Streamlined

Trojan Powder Coating Co. Inc., Bay Shore, N.Y., worked with the team to finish and coat the entire bridge project. Working with premium paint that is completely environmentally friendly⎯setting off no emissions, solvents or hazardous wastes⎯powder coating brought a durable, streamlined and high-quality finish to this special community initiative. The sleek design of the newly installed walkway poses an artful contrast to the park’s lush green foliage and natural beauty. Bringing visitors another means with which to enjoy the reservoir, guests can now utilize this park addition for biking, jogging, fishing or simply strolling and taking in the surrounding sights.”We were thrilled to play a part in the reservoir’s beautification initiative,” says Carl Troiano, founder of Trojan Powder Coating. “The resulting walkway not only adds an iconic landmark to the reservation, it promotes the community it’s a part of and we’re happy to be involved in it.
