The PrisMAX SL skylight system, an innovative, cost-effective daylighting solution specifically designed for new and retrofit metal roof applications, is now available from Memphis, Tenn.-based Varco Pruden Buildings, a division of BlueScope Buildings North America Inc.
Featuring a self-curbing design and high-performance prismatic lens by Sunoptics, these skylights help meet the increased demand for energysaving products in the marketplace. The PrisMAX SL system provides superior natural lighting and can reduce daytime demand for electrical lighting when used with Varco Pruden’s SSR or HWR roof systems and a lighting control system.
Developed in partnership with Sacramento, Calif.-based Sunoptics, an Acuity Brands Co., and BlueScope Buildings, the patented PrisMAX SL skylight system has a totally new daylight technology that is distinct and different from other current methods and products now on the market.
“This system, with daylighting delivery from Sunoptics, revolutionizes daylighting for buildings with standing seam metal roofs,” says Grant Grable, vice president and Value Stream Leader, Sunoptics Prismatic Skylights.
PrisMAX SL can help reduce lighting costs, which often is the highest operating expense in a building-even exceeding heating and cooling costs. In fact, a building equipped with the Pris- MAX SL system and a lighting management and control system can reduce lighting-related electricity expenses from 40 to 70 percent. To assist in determining the cost benefit of the PrisMAX SL system, Varco Pruden is introducing a proprietary energy calculator for building owners. Titled ESP, the energy calculator provides information including projected annual energy savings and projected payback for the PrisMAX SL system.
Further, the self-curbing frame minimizes concerns of leaking found in conventional solutions. With the PrisMAX SL system, water from rain or melting snow runs off the roof via a single-sided front-end diverter.
The standard 2- by 10-foot PrisMAX SL skylight works with both Varco Pruden’s SSR and HWR roof systems and functions in conjunction with those two roof systems to adjust to expansion and contraction induced by temperature changes. Manufactured in the United States, the skylight system is backed by a 20-year limited warranty.
The PrisMAX SL is an excellent retrofit option because the natural lighting can reduce lighting costs and allow building owners to take advantage of federal tax incentives for reducing lighting-related electricity consumption.
