American Buildings Co. wins volunteer award

The South Division of American Buildings Co., Eufaula, Ala., was named the 2009 Volunteer of the Year by Eufaula/Barbour County Chamber of Commerce. The Volunteer of the Year award was established in 2000 to honor an individual or group who has demonstrated a tireless commitment to the improvement of the Eufaula/Barbour County community. Chamber President Jack Pelfrey cited numerous examples of ABC’s charitable work throughout the Eufaula community, such as refurbishing 85 dumpsters that saved the City of Eufaula more than $85,000. Other projects include building nine and repairing 20 public benches, build two work tables, bush hogging and trash pickup on State Docks Road, reroofing the park pavilion, dugouts at an area park, concession stands and ticket booths, as well as painting the grandstands for the local Pee Wee Association. In addition, the ABC marketing department designed a Barbour County Economic Development brochure to help in attracting companies to the area. ABC not only sponsors various Eufaula Parks and Recreation teams but employees also volunteer as coaches.
“This year’s recipient serves our community in such a way that all other efforts pale in comparison,” said Pelfrey. “There is no job too big or small that they do not step up to the plate without reservation or hesitation.” ABC South Division’s general manager, Jack Jordan, accepted the award on behalf of the company at the Eufaula/Barbour County Chamber of Commerce annual meeting in Eufaula, Ala. Jordan spotlighted production manager Mark Smith and general foreman Jim Buffenbarger as being instrumental in ABC’s South Division community efforts. More than 175 people attended the event where various community awards were given and 2010 chamber officers were named.
“ABC is dedicated to doing our part to improve the communities where we work and live,” said Ray Napolitan, president of American Buildings Company. “We are honored to be recognized this year by Eufaula-Barbour County Chamber of Commerce and hope it inspires others to follow suit.” For more information on American Buildings Company, visit its Web site at www.americanbuildings.com.
