The Metal Building Manufacturers Association (MBMA) published its Metal Building Systems Manual, 2024 edition. First published in 1959, the reference manual for the metal building industry is published in partnership with the International Accreditation Service (IAS) and the International Code Council (ICC).

Lee Shoemaker, Ph.D., PE, director of research and engineering at MBMA, says, “For more than 65 years, the Metal Building Systems Manual has been the go-to resource in the metal building industry. This edition brings it up to date with the latest codes and provides even more examples and drawings to reference. With these revisions, it continues to be a must-have asset for those in our industry.”

The manual complies with the International Building Code and ASCE 7-22 Metal Building Systems Manual, 2024 edition. It includes explanations of standard industry practices related to the design, manufacturing, sale, and erection of metal building systems, including contract, order documents, and the engineer of record.

Other updates include expanded example problems for wind and snow to highlight changes in ASCE 7-22, including tornado load examples. Also, there are new appendices for bulk grain loads, hail, large doors, and steel thickness (in. versus gauge).

Tony Bouquot, general manager at MBMA, says, “The latest edition of the Metal Building Systems Manual is a testament to the many volunteers who put in hundreds of hours revising and reviewing it. And it’s our great honor to dedicate it to Dr. Lee Shoemaker, who will be retiring at the end of the year. His work on the many editions of this publication is an example of his dedication to and knowledge of our industry.”
