Column base elevations needed to be modified for Cornerstone Ice Arena and Sports Center because it’s in the side of a bedrock shelf. It was less expensive to modify the steel than bust out the bedrock at those locations. The facility houses two regulation ice rinks, locker rooms in the middle and bleacher seating above.
The project utilized a metal building system, metal roof and wall panels. Tedesco Construction Services Inc. erected Varco Pruden Buildings’ CB-1 single-slope metal building system with supermarket exterior columns.
Tedesco Construction Services installed 58,106 square feet of Varco Pruden Buildings’ Standing Seam Roofing System with a Galvalume finish, and 15,674 square feet of Vee Rib Wall System in Cool Imperial Blue and KXL finishes. Additionally, the high sidewall elevation includes 3,646 square feet of Varco Pruden Buildings’ Impressaclad concealed in-fill panels as an ascent surrounded by the Vee Rib Panels. To match the sports center, the metal roof and wall panels were also installed on a conventional building adjacent to it. In total, approximately 260 tons of steel were used for the project. Additionally, Therm-All Inc. supplied its insulation for the project and Lamtec Corp. supplied its Gymguard insulation facing. The 57,000-square-foot project was completed in 2016.
