RDG Planning and Design used a metal building system and insulated metal panel (IMP) walls in its design for Iowa West Sports Plex, a 75,000-square-foot complex used for soccer, baseball, softball and other sports.
Wall panels were aligned with girts to create the desired appearance. The building has 4-footdeep, straight columns. One set of girts was installed on the interior side of columns to attach IMPs. A second set of girts was installed on the exterior side of columns to attach single-skin façade panels. IMPs function as a thermal package and weather barrier. Also, to install IMPs on the girts on interior column sides with a Royal Blue side facing outward, the panels have the exterior color, Imperial White, facing the interior.
To complete the project, Chief Buildings supplied a metal building system with metal roofing. Andersen Construction Co., general contractor, erected the building and, at walls, installed 28,400 square feet of All Weather Insulated Panels Inc.’s FL40 IMPs. On the Royal Blue exterior faces, the panels have a Flat Embossed profile. The interior, Imperial White faces have an Embossed and Lightly Planked Mesa Rib profile.
