The outdoor play area and swimming pool are a key component of the new Orem YMCA facility. Approximately 2,000 square feet (186 m2) of RHEINZINK preweathered Blue-Gray perforated, corrugated fence panels from RHEINZINK America Inc. were used to provide security for members, as well as durability and aesthetic appeal for the neighborhood facility.
Design for the 25,000-square-foot (2,323-m2) facility was a new concept for Ys. “The Orem Y has all of the amenities of a traditional YMCA but is smaller in size with a more ‘neighborhood’ feel,” said Greg Ryden, project manager with Brave Architecture. “The design really focused on the exterior pool and play area. That obviously required the necessary security. We created a unique fencing system that combined varying depth RHEINZINK perforated panels installed above a traditional vinyl coated fence.”
The 8-foot (2.4-m) RHEINZINK panels were installed horizontally with panel depths of 3, 4 and 5 feet (0.9, 1.2 and 1.5 m). “We designed a rhythmic pattern that looks quite attractive while providing privacy and security and also allowing airflow,” Ryden said.
