Twin Rinks Ice Center at Eisenhower Park, East Meadow, N.Y.

Twin Rinks Ice Center at Eisenhower Park, East Meadow, N.Y.Six insulated metal panel profiles (IMP) in various colors were specified for Twin Rinks Ice Center at Eisenhower Park on Long Island to meet building operation, aesthetic and project schedule goals. The 165,000-square-foot facility houses two professional league-sized hockey rinks. IMPs help keep the ice rinks at the proper temperature.

The project utilized 13,800 square feet of Metl-Span's 3-inch 7.2 Insul-Rib IMPs in Regal Blue, 10,500 square feet of 3-inch CF42 Striated IMPs in Brite Red and 5,100 square feet of 4-inch Thermal- Space 42 IMPs in Pewter. Additionally, Metl-Span supplied 18,500 square feet of 6-inch ThermalSpace 42 IMPs in Pewter, 4,200 square feet of CF24 IMPs in Silver and 1,600 square feet of the CFR-42 Roof panels in Silver and Regal Blue.

Bruce Forster, of Stuart Berger Construction Corp., installer for the project, says the owner wanted durable exterior and interior surfaces. "It had to be something to keep it dry on the inside because humidity is a killer for ice," he says. "Like all rinks, there's a humidity control system, but the insulated panels provide more efficiency."

The project required one- and two-hour rated sections of firewall. Robert Andrus, president at Andrus Architecture, says it was easy to utilize multiple Metl-Span products. "We had a great color palette to choose from and the erection time met our schedule," he says.

Twin Rinks Ice Center at Eisenhower Park features stadium seating, eight locker rooms, figure skating locker rooms, pro shop, private party rooms and a personal fitness and sports physical therapy training area.
