Ribbed panels throw parallel shadows that accentuate the depth of the wall. Recessed windows offer criss-crossed shadows and thin vertical stripes of taxi-cab-yellow trim give nuanced contrast to the shadows and light. New York City-based Perkins + Will removed the veil from science, when it revamped Ithaca, N.Y.-based Cornell University’s Upson Hall’s (circa 1956) façade. Approximately 29,000 square feet of finished assemblies consisting of Kennett Square, Pa.-based Metalwërks’ ornamental metal enclosures and Arcwall rainscreen panels transformed the 155,000-square-foot student hub into a LEED Platinum, thermally efficient, aesthetically enriched structure.
