Canco General Contractors Inc., an authorized builder for Varco Pruden Buildings, constructed a building for Revolution Church with Varco Pruden’s Rigid Frame, Continuous Beam, Continuous Truss and Unibeam Lean-to framing systems. Varco Pruden Building’s SSR standing seam roof system was also used on the 23,075-squarefoot, two-story structure, designed by Samuel G. Sheets & Associates.
The church is a traditional-style building with parapet walls on three sides and includes an 800- seat auditorium, lobby and children’s areas. The building includes canopy systems and insulated glass in the main foyer area. The sanctuary contains 850 seats with room to expand with a 300-seat balcony. Horizontal deep-ribbed metal panels cover the walls with a column-supported, second-floor system that occupies 12,000 square feet of the building. Additional supporting steel was used for stage, lighting and sound, extension canopies and a second-floor loading area. Several energy-efficient enhancements were made in the construction of the church including increased wall insulation, insulated glass and a high-efficiency HVAC system.
Revolution Church was started in Cherokee County, Ga., by the West Ridge congregation. The modern-looking church sits on a hill located on a prominent county road that leads from the Atlanta area to Canton. The congregation moved to the new facility in January 2013 and Sunday services expanded from two to three. Lead Pastor Jason Gerdes calls the church contemporary in many aspects but traditional in beliefs.
