Corrugated metal siding and a standing seam metal roof unify the exterior envelope of a detached accessory dwelling unit behind a single-family home as a single form. Satisfying another project goal, the metal panels require minimal maintenance.
On the roof, Consolidated Gutter and Sheet Metal LLC installed 800 square feet of Taylor Metal Inc.’s standing seam roof system in Weathered Zinc. On the walls, 1,500 square feet of Taylor Metal’s 24-gauge Classic 7/8-inch Corrugated Wall Panels in Weathered Zinc were installed.
Robert Hutchison Architecture designed the two-story, 799-square-foot structure to feel like a large room with a loft with a combination of double-height space and plywood cladding on the floors and interior walls. To complement the plywood wall panels and exposed wood framing, the design incorporates steel fabrications including a custom-designed, steel tube beam handrail, stair tread and landings.
The detached accessory dwelling unit is located in the city’s Fremont neighborhood and was completed in February 2018.
